Barcelona legend Lionel Messi beats Cristiano Ronaldo to another prestigious record in Europe

Cristiano Ronaldo has been shunned from the list of most decorated stars in Europe

– The 35-year-old forward has won 26 titles in top three leagues

– Ronaldo’s rival Lionel Messi was selected as part of the compilation of players with several medals
Juventus superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has been overlooked from the list of most decorated players in European leagues.

The 35-year-old who joined the Old Lady after the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia has won a total of 26 titles so far in his club career.
Ronaldo clinched nine titles at Manchester United before joining Real Madrid where he became triumphant 15 times in nine seasons.
He has so far won two trophies at the Allianz Stadium with the third one in view at the end of the ongoing season.

Ronaldo is the second player to have five Ballon d’Or awards – the only player to have more than him is Barcelona legend, Lionel Messi but did not make the list as reported by Daily Star.
However, the winger was shunned from the list despite spending six seasons at Old Trafford while Gary Neville, Paul Scholes, and Ryan Giggs were the legends selected from the Premier League.
Another notable name missing on the shortlist is Brazilian right-back Dani Alves who is one of the world’s most decorated players with 43 honours in total.

Most Decorated XI As revealed by William Hill
1: Gianluigi Buffon – 24 trophies
2: Gary Neville – 20 trophies
3: Phillip Lahm – 21 trophies
4: Thiago Silva – 20 trophies
5: Paolo Maldini – 25 trophies
6: Andres Iniesta – 32 trophies
7: Marco Verratti – 22 trophies
8: Paul Scholes – 26 trophies
9: Thomas Muller – 21 trophies
10: Lionel Messi – 34 trophies
11: Ryan Giggs – 34 trophies

Substitute:
Oliver Kahn – 22 trophies
Marquinhos – 19 trophies
Sergio Busquets – 29 trophies
Alessandro Del Piero – 18 trophies

The former Juventus and PSG star won most of his titles playing for the Catalans (28) but his ex-teammates Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta and Sergio Busquets pip him on Spanish accolades.
Tony Smith, Online Marketing Director at William Hill, said: “ The best starting XI from over the years is a hotly debated topic amongst football supporters, so we decided to put this to the test and select a one to 11 based on major trophies won by players who have played in the top five European leagues over the last 30 years .
“ The starting XI includes the likes of Paolo Maldini, Andres Iniesta, Lionel Messi and Ryan Giggs – legends of the game – and with the rest of the talent in this team, the first XI have a total of 367 medals between them.

“ Many might gasp in horror at Cristiano Ronaldo missing out, but there’s no space for the Juventus goal machine due to his medals being spread out across three leagues.
“ Despite winning the Ballon d’Or a remarkable five times, the Portuguese attacker still trails Messi, Iniesta and Sergio Busquets in Spain, as well as Giggs, Paul Scholes and Gary Neville in England – teammates of his at Manchester United .”
Bioreports earlier reported that Cristiano Ronaldo was snubbed by teammate Douglas Costa when asked who the best player of Juventus is.
The Brazilian believes Paulo Dybala is ahead of Ronaldo in his own opinion despite the former Real Madrid star’s impact since his arrival from Real Madrid in 2018.
Ronaldo won the Most Valuable Player award in his first season in Serie A and helped the Biaconeri remain top of the table this term.
