The Deputy Commissioner of Police attached to Zone 5 headquarters in Benin, DCP Francis Bissong, has died of coronavirus less than 48 hours to his birthday.
DCP Bissong passed on Tuesday, less than two days to his 57 birthday on Thursday.

However, following the deterioration of the late DCP’s health and coupled with his symptomatic of COVID-19 he was subjected to the pandemic test the result which came out positive.
And about a week after falling sick the worst happened. Some of his Facebook friends have taken to the social media to mourn his demise with one Kennedy Amachi revealing the deceased would have been a year older on Thursday.
“This is not what I was expecting to hear less than 48 hours to your birthday.
Francis! We won’t weep but will celebrate you because that’s what we know you would have wanted . Return if Possible galant officer. Goodnight my friend,” Amachi wrote.
Dayo Akinbisehin talked about how the deceased cop was instrumental to him/her joining the force and his or her own tribute: “DCP Francis Bissong, my boss, my architect! I call you my architect because you knew how it all started early 1996. I walked into your office in Akure to obtain police enlistment form from you as Police PRO Ondo State Command. The rest is but history… A highly detribalized polyglot and free thinker, you were a reformist in uniform and perfectionist per excellence moulded in the precepts and best virtues in modern policing. You impacted these sterling qualities in me then as a raw civilian anticipating a career in the Force, effortlessly building same on every aspiring nay, neophyte police officer coming along your way in your chequered police career across the Nigerian rubicon. My regrets though so painful as it is – Vicissitudes of police job never allowed us to physically meet for once again (though we interacted on phone) so you could see me in police uniform which you laid the foundation for me wearing today with pride, sequel to you exiting this sinful world… Eternal rest your priceless soul my highly revered Ogha Bissong… Amen.”
